Learning

At Ark in the Park we aim to embed a love for lifelong learning in the curious minds of your children. Curiosity is where it starts with these inquisitive little minds, therefore we build a curriculum around them, child centred with them at the heart of all that we do.

As a curriculum base we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage – EYFS, focusing on the prime and specific areas. Throughout the Nursery in each room, they will develop the next step in their learning journey building on their foundation of learning until they are ready for the next stage.
We then plan our own curriculum from this which is adapted and evaluated regularly so that it truly represents the children and families within our care. Furthermore, we can ensure we are helping them to achieve learning which is relevant to them.

We plan children’s learning firstly looking at the individual child, and then the curriculum to plan activities and continuous provision which will enable them to access learning in their own individual styles. We aim for the children to explore the awe and wonder of the world within the experiences and exploration time they have whilst at Nursery. As the children develop new concepts, ideas and interests the team are at hand to scaffold this learning and help them to uncover the next stage in their development. We often take trips around the local community to expose the children to learning in different environments.

Key research shows that 90% of a child’s brain development happens between 0-5 years therefore the learning that takes place at Ark in the Park is key in lifelong achievement and attainment for future learning.

We have a big emphasis on communication and language as it is so important to talk, sing, read and play with young children to give them the opportunities to explore the physical world therefore providing a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for which they can explore with independence or with the support of a caring and responsive adult.

When they leave us to head off to “big school” we feel confident they are prepared for their future leaning and successes, being confident in the little person they have grown to become.

The early years foundation stage ( EYFS ) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.
